Origins & Philosophy : Ancient roots to Classical Yoga | 28th of February & 1st of march
Throughout time, yoga has taken on different forms and has transformed and adapted to its social, political and spiritual surroundings. In this immersive weekend, we dive into the earliest known historical and philosophical roots. We’ll trace yoga’s evolution from ancient symbolism and Vedic ritual to classical systems like Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras and the Bhagavad Gita, uncovering the ideas and texts that still shape modern practice.
What to Expect:
- A physical studio practice to start each day of theory.
- Indus Valley to Vedic Era, including proto-yogic symbols, ritual, and early meditative practices.
- Core Upanishadic concepts like karma, prāṇa, and inward practices.
- Classical Yoga, including the eight limbs of Ashtāṅga Yoga and an intro to Raja Yoga’s mental discipline.
- Epic narratives such as the Gītā, Mahābhārata, and Rāmāyaṇa, and how they shaped yogic ethics and devotion.
- Philosophical schools and key āstika traditions—Samkhya, Yoga, Vedanta—and their influence.
By weaving together ancient philosophical teachings, cultural history, and foundational yogic texts, you will cultivate a vivid, living connection to yoga’s heritage—and learn to apply these timeless frameworks with authenticity to modern styles of asana, pranayama, and meditation practice.
Trauma : A Somatic and Yogic Approach | 21st and22nd of march
Trauma isn’t just in the mind—it’s stored in the body as tension, breath patterns, and protective responses. This weekend course offers a somatic approach to understanding trauma for ourselves and others. Through the lens of nervous system awareness, we’ll explore how trauma shows up in movement, posture, and emotion. Using breathwork (pranayama), kriya-based movement, and somatic therapy tools, you’ll learn to listen more closely to the body, build resilience, and create supportive, trauma-informed spaces for yourself and others.
What to expect:
- Understanding what trauma is and how it shows up in the body.
- Tools to build resiliency by grounding and centring the body.
- Naming and feeling emotions to bring them into practice in healthy ways.
- Listening to the body and interpreting the messages it is sending.
- Noticing your own triggers and response patterns.
- Embodied integration of the learning through grounding somatic exercises and breathwork practices.
- Tools to be supportive of others who have experienced significant stress or trauma.
- Understanding trauma within a larger cultural/philosophical system from a Western and Eastern perspective.
Please note that this course may surface emotions, stress, or trauma responses. If there’s anything in your history you’d like us to be aware of, please reach out in advance so we can support you appropriately. This is not a therapy group or a substitute for therapeutic care.
Structural Integrity: navigating from within | 11 & 12th of april
Step into the heart of STUDIO MILE END’s approach to postural work, where anatomy meets lived experience. We’ll explore practical strategies for practicing and teaching Asana while debunking common alignment myths. Over the weekend course, you’ll deepen your understanding of how the body moves and responds physically, energetically, and biomechanically, learning to apply alignment principles across postural families to stimulate, balance, or neutralize a practice intentionally.
What to expect:
- Alignment that serves real people
- Postural families and how to mix, match, and counter them.
- Gravity, stretch theory, and how to work with, not against, the body.
- Prep work for big poses without the burnout.
- Teaching from what you feel and know, not from a script.
- Embodied anatomy that bridges the gap between health sciences and yoga.
- Methodology that you can feel in your practice and apply to guiding others.
By the end of this weekend, you’ll walk away with a sharper eye, clearer language, and a deeper trust in your own embodied wisdom. This is about more than technique—it’s about learning to see, feel, practice, and teach with purpose, precision, and presence.
Medieval to Modern : Mythology, Tantra, Hatha and Modern Yoga | 25 & 26th of april
This immersive weekend delves into the philosophical and historical development of yoga, from the Yoga Sūtras through the Tantric and Hatha traditions to modern postural styles. Gain embodied insight into lineage and teachings to deepen your practice and inform your instruction.
*This weekend continues historically where we left off in the weekend of ‘Origins and Philosophy’.
What to Expect:
- A physical Studio practice to start each day.
- In-depth discussion of Patanjali’s Yoga Sūtras and how the path of meditation is used in shaping today’s contemplative frameworks.
- A look at the Tantric Period (~6th–15th CE) and how Tantra reframed the body as a spiritual vehicle.
- The emergence of Hatha Yoga (~9th–15th CE) and some of the foundational texts that formalized kriyas, asanas, pranayama, and bandhas for subtle‑energy cultivation and embodied practice.
- An integrative approach to understanding Hindu mythology, to inspire creative practice.
- Modern postural yoga is and how we got here. From the influence of Swami Vivekananda’s global introduction of yoga philosophy, to Indian Independence from colonial rule, to teachers like T. Krishnamacharya our modern practice has been deeply informed by this legacy of adaptation, precision, and cross-cultural synthesis.
This course will offer both intellectual insight and embodied experience, equipping you to transmit and understand yoga with integrity, depth, and clarity.
Ritual Rest: Somatic Preparation for Pranayama & Meditation | 2nd & 3rd of may
Immerse yourself in restorative postural practices designed to gently prepare the body and regulate the nervous system, laying the ideal foundation for the inner work of pranayama and meditation. Rather than lecturing about technique, the emphasis will be on doing: embodying these concepts through supported postural sequences and breathwork so you can truly feel, and eventually share what relaxation and readiness feel like.
What to expect:
- Guided inward awareness of breath, sensations, and thoughts for embodied learning beyond intellect.
- Restorative sessions that include fewer, long-held poses supported by props to ease tension and foster deep calm by gently regulating the nervous system.
- Yin yoga with passive stretches targeting fascia, ligaments, and tendons to boost flexibility, circulation, and tissue health.
- Diaphragmatic and paced breathing practices to enhance vagal tone and prepare for pranayama.
- A mix of theory & embodiment, with brief context and science paired with immersive, hands-on practice for real understanding.
This immersive course is designed to slow things down, allowing you to rest, reset, and bear witness to your body’s innate capacity for breath, presence, and reflection.
Assists & Adjustments : Empowered Alignment, Trust & Technique | 23rd & 24th of may
Learn how to offer safe, intentional, and respectful hands-on support in this experiential weekend immersion. Through the lenses of anatomy, energetic direction, and nervous system sensitivity, you’ll develop the skills to adjust with confidence and deep care.
What to expect:
- Consent & boundaries with ongoing verbal and nonverbal communication to honour comfort and agency.
- Therapeutic touch that grounds with gentle assists to support rather than override the student’s experience.
- Tools to recognize nervous system cues like breath, posture, and tone, to guide your approach.
- Trauma-informed awareness, including understanding power dynamics and the history of touch in yoga.
- Hands-on practice to build your assist vocabulary—from light directional cues to more supportive, full-body adjustments.
- Building collaborative communication by inviting feedback and creating a culture of shared agency in class.
This course is deeply hands-on and inclusive. If you have any access needs, trauma considerations, or touch sensitivities, let us know—we’re committed to creating a space where everyone feels respected and empowered.
By the end, you’ll have a refined toolkit for offering (or choosing not to offer) assists that are effective, ethical, and attuned.
Subtle Body: Mapping Energy for Yogic Practice | 13 & 14th of june
Almost every wisdom tradition includes a system that maps the interplay between the physical body, energy flow, and consciousness. This weekend immersion focuses on how subtle-body systems emerged in yoga and how they influence alignment, sequencing, and teaching.
We may never fully know how these ancient thinkers experienced these energetic landscapes, but through embodied practice, theory, and intention, we can learn to sense and apply them in our own work, to potentially guide others with clarity.
This course is designed for those who wish to weave energetic understanding into their embodied teaching and practice.
What to expect
- A look at Subtle-body alignment and cultivating presence through intentional posture grounded in energetic anatomy.
- Take steps towards energy-informed sequencing and designing classes to support, circulate, and balance prana via chakras, nadis, bandhas, vayus, and koshas.
- We will use experiential integration for deeper embodiment. Through somatic practice to observe how this blueprint influences breath, posture, focus, and awareness.
Gain tactile familiarity with yoga’s transformational energy system. Learn to teach beyond anatomy—incorporating energetic dynamics and conscious sequencing. Embody and guide subtle-body awareness personally and professionally with clarity and depth.
